This summer the Thunder basketball team had to turn to Westbrook as Kevin Durant announced he was signing with the Golden State Warriors. Many people thought the Thunder was doomed as the dynamic duo broke apart and Westbrook was destined to be the leader, except this time it was for good. Durant’s signing wasn’t the only problem the Thunder feared, Westbrook will leave them in free agency next year. That problem was solved later as Westbrook agreed to sign with them for three years, a contract that is worth $85.7 million dollars. The contract also included an option for one more year, Westbrook stated, “There’s nowhere else I would rather be than Oklahoma City.”
After the not-so-great summer ended the NBA season finally came and OKC was facing the Simmons-less 76ers. It was an easy win for Westbrook and the Thunder as they won 103-97. Westbrook almost got a triple-double, 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists. The OKC Thunder are playing pretty good without Durant as they are eight wins to six loses as they rank number six in the Western Conference, which is better than expected.
Westbrook after a few games now averages 31.6 ppg, 9.7 rpg, and 10.4 apg, a double-double that is almost a triple-double. Not only is Westbrook averaging outstanding numbers he is one of the favorites for MVP. If Westbrook keeps this up the Thunder will go a long way.
This video are the highlights of the game Westbrook had this season were he got a triple-double and had a career high 51 points.
