Mater Gardens Academy celebrates ‘Bookabration’

By Nicholas Perez

Mater Gardens Academy hosted its annual ‘Bookabration’ event and this 2014/2015 school year ‘Bookabration’ left quite the impression. Held every year at Mater Gardens Academy, ‘Bookabration’ celebrates every aspect of literature and books. Every year each grade level represents a book in the science-fiction genre category. Students have to come dressed up as their characters and parade around the bus loop.

The school hired a DJ, the roads were blocked by the police, and dozens of parents came to see their child walk in the parade along with their class. To name a few, eighth grade represented the book  “The Outsiders” by S.E Hinton. Sixth grade did a science-fiction book, “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card and fifth grade did historical fiction, representing “Blood on the River.”

“The event was truly remarkable and it was great to see my students bring the book to life with their artwork,” said Ms. Moreno, Middle School Interventionist.

After the students were done, the administration made a surprise performance. The staff paraded around to the song “We Will Rock You,” with the book “Pete the Cat.” After that Ms. Gomez choreographed a dance that everyone joined into. The parade came to an end, but it was a great success as always. Until next year Bookabration!’
